Steven was supposed to be at my house around 2:00 on Friday, May 13th. (Yes, we got engaged on Friday the 13th!!!!) He kept sending me texts telling me that he was going to be late for one reason or another. He finally ended up getting there about 3 hours later. I was still completely oblivious to why he was late or the fact that he had a ring in his pocket. We planned on grilling that night and did so even though it was late when we got to eat because he was so late getting to the house. Steven cleaned up the dishes as we were cooking and also manned the grill. After we ate, I was in the kitchen finishing up the last few dishes which Steven was watching tv. At that time, he pulled out the ring box, and I immediatly started crying. He said he hoped those were tears of joy!!! That is when he told me that he was late because he had gone to my dad's house to ask for his permission to marry me, but unfortunately, my dad was not home at the time. He had to wait until after dinner to ask me because it wasn't until that time that he had been able to talk to my dad!!! He completely caught me off guard as well as everyone else because only 2 people besides him knew he had the ring....my dad and a friend of his that works where he bought the ring. We shared the news with my mom when she got home from work that night and then with other family and friends the next day. We are looking forward to our Nov 5 wedding date and the beginning of the next chapter in our life!!!!!
