Me and my now fiance has been dating for going on four years. We had been talking about marriage for a long time. On Christmas day he finally asked! After we opened all the present we was cleaning up. We was at his house so he walked to his room, I did not think nothing of it. After him staying in his rooms for the longest time it seemed I asked was he okay. He finally came in the den where I was. I was sitting on the couch looking at my christmas. He walks in and says "Thanks for all my gifts." I then thought he was fixing to kiss me, but he got on one knee and I just knew. He only got out " You know I love you with all my. . ." Before he got it all out, I just screamed and said really? So then he said yes I am. I then said Yes and asked again was he being forreal. He never got out Will you ... [+] marry me. I was just so happy! God has truely blessed me with an amazing man.

32 years ago... I lived in a city 60 miles from where he lived. One night after a date, he said, "You know, I am getting really tired of driving so far to see you." Then he paused. I was ready to say, "Well. OK. Then. Don't." Then he said, "If you would marry me, I wouldn't have to." On our 25th Anniversary, he took me to a romantic restaurant and got on his knee in front of everyone and asked again... this time with a diamond ring!!
#405 - Was it really a proposal?

On the night we met he told me I was the girl he was going to marry. The next week we had the worst 1st date imaginable. Five weeks later we were married in a small church wedding. The only proposal he made was the first night we met. I guess we both knew it was the real thing, in 2013 we will celebrate 35 years of marriage.

My husband and I were high school sweethearts, we were friends for a year and didn't even start dating until we were on a school trip in L.A., it truly was a fairy tale from the start...there was a necklace in one of the shops we had visited that I fell in love with, it was a dolphin with my birthstone in it but couldn't afford it. Like a gentleman my husband had offer to pay for it but as friends there was no way I was going to let him spend any money on me thus bringing up the discussion of (defining our relationship) which led to him asking me out. Obviously I said yes and as soon as I did be pulled the necklace out of his pocket. Our first kiss was just as romantic, and after 2 years and in my junior his senior year he had told me loved me while watching a movie, I of course replied that ... [+] I loved him too he said "will you always love me?" I said "Yes I will" while reaching into his pocket he replied "do you promise?' and then Presented me with a promise ring...3 years after graduation and I was at my job at the time in a department store on a stepping stool stalking a shoe wall when all do a sudden I hear my name over the intercom and just as I turned around to see the whole store looking up at me my husband asked me to marry him! As I walked to the counter he was standing at he had needled to one knee and presented me with a ring with my birthstone (A pearl) In the middle surrounded by a thin ring of diamonds...it is currently welded to my wedding band and after 7 years and a beautiful daughter my fairy tale with my husband is still just as amazing as it was the day it began on that island in L.A. That is my story and I hope you enjoyed reading it.
#402 - Waiting and Waiting
Posted on 12/20/2011 4:21:52 PM by Kristen M
My now fiance was my Resident Assistant when I was a freshman in college. We were best friends for years and just seem to loose touch once we had both gotten into other relationships. Years later he walked into Chili's (where I worked at the time) and I freaked out. I hadn't spoken or seen him in 2 years and I didn't know what to do or say. I finally found the courage to go up to him and say hello. We spoke for a couple minutes before I had to go back to work.
Then, as we was walking to the bathroom, we literally ran into each other. We had a conversation for a few minutes and I finally asked him what he was doing that night. We decided we would go and have drinks when I got off of work. He came, picked me up and we went out to a local bar. We had a couple drinks and then he came to my ... [+] apartment to see where I lived. I then went and saw where he lived. After that, we started talking more and more and right before he moved 160 miles we decided we really wanted to try to make this work.
After two a half years of being long-distance he called me one morning and told me he was basically in tears because he was tired of leaving me. That's when we decided I would move in with him at the end of the year.
We had talked about getting married before I moved, because I always swore I wouldn't live with a boyfriend until we were engaged so I thought it may be coming but I really didn't know. Thanksgiving passed and it still hadn't happened so I thought it wasn't going to happen.
The following week, December 4th, was the day before my birthday and he said he wanted to spend some time just the two of us and he was going to take me on a picnic. We had plans with friends that night and family the following day to celebrate my "birthday" so I thought...well this would be a good time for him to but who knows.
So we picked up food and went to the place we met, University of North Florida, and we sat where we once, 7 years ago, looked up and clouded watched. It was really nice to go back to the place where it all began. He gave me a present and said "There are two presents in there but you can only open one right now" so I did. It was the first season of Glee. The he said, "let's go on a walk."
We walked until we found a cute bench. I sat on the bench and as I sat down he got down on one knee and all I could say was, "Are you serious?". He said a bunch of things that I truly don't remember and then I said yes and finally got to look at the gorgeous ring! He then informed me that both the party that night and the one the following night was put together because of the engagement and they were all already aware that he was proposing!
We will be married on April 21, 2012 and I can't wait!!!
#397 - Third time's a charm
Posted on 11/14/2011 4:13:46 PM by Elizabeth Nowak
Our relationship began 20 years ago when we were both in middle school. Back then, there was just a lot of hand holding, slow dancing, and movie watching (Back to the Future II!). After a break up and many life experiences 10 years later, we reunited briefly in college after randomly running into each other on Bourbon Street in New Orleans in 2000. The relationship never really got off the ground because of distance and job opportunities that took us in different directions. In 2009, we bumped into each other back in our hometown after not seeing each other for 10 years. The timing was perfect for both of us and on July 18, 2011, my childhood sweetheart proposed to me on Jekyll Island in Georgia. It was a perfect answer to our unorthodox 20+ year courtship: he waited until after the romantic ... [+] candlelit dinner ... after the moonlit stroll along the water ... until I was in my pajamas complaining of a sunburn. It was unexpected and wonderful. We're getting married at the end of this year ... two weeks after what would be our 23rd anniversary!
#396 - Hawaii for Spring Break

In March my fiance and I planned a trip to visit my aunt in Honolulu for spring break. We had been dating for almost two years and had talked about marriage, so I was hoping he would pop the question there. Our second night in the city he had planned a dinner at a restaurant on the beach. It was still early (around 5pm) and I wanted to wait to get a table close to the ocean but he said we didn't have time and told the waiter to seat us wherever. After seated the waiter moved us to a table close to the ocean and I was sure it was going to happen then.
We ate dinner, paid quickly, and got up to leave, still no ring. We were walking along the beach when I wanted to go out on a pier to check it out. After being told "no" I continued to walk, admittedly a little bit annoyed. We came to another ... [+] pier where a bottle was lying amidst the rocks. He saw it, went over to pick it up, and read his message to me. I cried as he put the ring on my finger. He later told me he was in a hurry because he wanted to propose as the sun was setting.
I am marrying my best friend next June!

#393 - who would have known
Posted on 10/5/2011 3:18:30 PM by high school crush
While in high school I had a huge crush on him and he knew of me but didn't know me. We started talking from facebook, then emails, then texts then phone calls on my way to work every morning and then began a long distance relationship. We both didn't believe in them because we didn't think it would without being with each other. Boy were we both wrong. After a year of this long distance relationship, he flew from MI to AZ to visit my daughter and I, we went out to dinner the 3 of us then I took him back to where he was staying, he didn't want to stay with me out of respect for my daughter. He then handed me his phone and asked me to look up something but this video came on. It was my favorite song "but i do love you" by leanne rimes and he have put together a photo montage of pictures ... [+] we had sent between the two of us and towards the end "will" was typed on the computer "you" he wrote in sidewalk chalk "marry" was in magazine letters and "me?" he wrote on his hand and took a picture of himself with his hand up. When the video was done I looked up and was on his knee with my daughter right next to him and a ring in his hand. It meant so much to me that he included my daughter. I accepted and we will be a family on 5/18/2012, that is our birthday's added together, he is 1/8 and I am 4/10.
#392 - Guesstures Proposal
Posted on 9/30/2011 11:05:21 PM by Highschool Sweetheart
In college, my roommates and I always had game nights and the main game of the night was always guesstures. My fiance set up a typical get together but it was actually a built-in engagement party where everyone was in on it. It was our turn and started acting out a few words that were pre selected to make sure they were guessed quickly. And then the word was proposal (which is a legit word in the game) so I didn't think anything of it. Unfortunately, the buzzer went off and I walked away thinking we lost all our points. After some improvising on his part, we were back up at the front and acting again. He busted out the ring and a friend hit play to our song! It was amazing and hilarious to think back on! It was so nice to share the moment with our friends and even one was secretly video taping ... [+] so we have it all recorded! Love him!

I'd had a crush on my lovely divorce lawyer but he was married at the time... a few years later, he, too, was divorced. We dated for six months but he was not ready to take on a new marriage with young children. Eleven years later, I sent him a Christmas card; he replied with an invitation to visit... I went up a month later, and within an hour (following a simple soup lunch) he said, from his armchair looking at me in mine, 'well, what do you think about getting married?" I said Yes... and less than a year later, we are about to get married! We are 58 and 60 years old!!!!

We were living at the beach at the time and had found a nice secluded spot on the beach that we would go to, to get away from the world. It was our spot. One night after work, my fiance picked me up, had packed a picnic basket and said we were headed to our spot. He laid out a blanket, opened the basket and we dined on cheese and crackers, fruit and wine as we gazed at the gorgeous moon reflecting on the calm water. We had been there about 30 minutes, talking about how much we were in love and about what our future would be like. Then he reaches in his pocket and pulls out a tiny box. In it was his grandmother's wedding ring set. As he opened it, everything seemed like it was in slow motion as he asked me to marry him. Of course I immediately said yes to the love of my life. That was ... [+] 2 years ago. We will be getting married in 2 weeks!

Steven was supposed to be at my house around 2:00 on Friday, May 13th. (Yes, we got engaged on Friday the 13th!!!!) He kept sending me texts telling me that he was going to be late for one reason or another. He finally ended up getting there about 3 hours later. I was still completely oblivious to why he was late or the fact that he had a ring in his pocket. We planned on grilling that night and did so even though it was late when we got to eat because he was so late getting to the house. Steven cleaned up the dishes as we were cooking and also manned the grill. After we ate, I was in the kitchen finishing up the last few dishes which Steven was watching tv. He called me in the living room because he wanted to show me something. I was finishing up the dishes so I told him to wait just a minute. ... [+] When I finally went in the living room, he said, "I got you something." I said, "You did, what?" At that time, he pulled out the ring box, and I immediatly started crying. He said he hoped those were tears of joy!!! That is when he told me that he was late because he had gone to my dad's house to ask for his permission to marry me, but unfortunately, my dad was not home at the time. He had to wait until after dinner to ask me because it wasn't until that time that he had been able to talk to my dad!!! He completely caught me off guard as well as everyone else because only 2 people besides him knew he had the ring....my dad and a friend of his that works where he bought the ring. We shared the news with my mom when she got home from work that night and then with other family and friends the next day. We are looking forward to our Nov 5 wedding date and the beginning of the next chapter in our life!!!!!
#384 - Sorting through trash
Posted on 9/9/2011 2:57:03 PM by Christine Fortis
So my fiance and & moved in with his dad since he was 83, widowed and beging to have health issues and, was living in a really large house by himself. Being WWII children, my fiances parents save EVERYTHING. In order for us to make room for us to start a life and a family at this house, we had to sort through and throw away A LOT of junk (this is a brooklyn brownstone so 5 floors of junk) After a few months of doing this we finally had enough room for us to move in but there was still a lot for us to do in order to be able to claim a full floor for ourselves. So one night there is a thunderstorm and the cable goes out while we are lying in bed watching tv. I was feeling grumpy from a long day so I decided to go take a hot shower to relax. When I came out of the shower he comes to me with a ... [+] box and asks me to help him sort through it. I'm like "do we have to do this now, I'm really not in the mood". He says, "yes, I want to get it out of our room" So I start going through it and saying we should throw this out, we could use this in the house, etc. I come to a jewelry box. In my mind I'm thinking its another piece of jewelry that belonged to his aunt who once lived in the house but has passed away a few years ago now. When I open the box, my engagement ring was in there. I said will you marry me, and I was speechless. I started crying, said yes and hugged him for a really long time. Then we went into the next room and shared the news with his dad.
#382 - A perfect proposal at the palace
Posted on 9/8/2011 1:56:44 PM by Sara Gaines
It all started on the weekend of December 6th 2009, my boyfriend (now husband) was coming down for the weekend like he always does, because he was living in a different town for school. We only had sundays off together so as usual I asked what we were doing for Sunday, but he kept telling me he didn't know and that he would figure something out, which is not like him, he is very organized, he's a marine, but I thought "maybe he is just focusing on his finals" so I let it go. Well by Saturday morning I wanted and needed to know what we were doing for Sunday, so I asked again and told him I NEEDED an answer. So he tells me we are going to the exploratorium in san francisco, I was super excite. So the next day we were off, but the odd thing was that he wouldn't put his phone down, (another thing ... [+] out of the ordinary) but he said he was just talking to his friend about meeting up to study for the final, so I thought nothing of it, until we got into the city and he was still text while driving, I thought we were gonna die hahaha, so I told him he needed to get off his phone and pay attention to the road, so he put it down. We finally got to where we were going and he parks the car, and he parked next to a curb, (which I hate, cause I'm always paranoid that I'm gonna smash the door on the curb) so I'm waiting for him to help me, and when I look up, what's he doing...TEXTING AGAIN!!!!! So I said that's it, if that's what your gonna do all day then I want my phone and I'm gonna talking to whoever I want. He started laughing and put his phone away, he went to grab my hand and I was to irritated so I pulled away, he laughed again and put his arm around me, and we continued walking, but we weren't going to the exploratorium, and then he said, " come here I wanna take a picture" so I did and as a turn around he grabs me in a bear hug, and is squeezing me so tight I can hardly breath, and he starts telling me how much he loves me and cars about me ( I didn't hear all of it because my ears were muffled by the tightness of his hug) and then he lets go and says "I have a very important question that's long over due" and he got down on one knee and pulls out the box, opens it and says "Sara will you marry me?" and all I could do is laugh and cry, and then when it came to me I screamed "YES!!!!" and he bear hugged me again, and kissed me, and then I hear someone from behind us say "ok guys get a room" and I turn around and it's out photographer friend dressed like a bum, my boyfriend paid him to hide and take pictures of the actual proposal, but there weren't many places to go and hide, so he dressed like a bum and layer down on the park bench until it was time, and I remember seeing him and obviously not know it was him. It was amazing and perfect and the place where we were was the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, which is right next to the exploratorium, it was amazing.
#381 - Empire State Building!!

well me and my husband to be in three weeks got engaged while on a vacation in new york city in june 2011. my mom was working there temporarily, we are from idaho. he some what spoiled the surprise by telling me he would do it while we were in new york because we had talked about getting engaged and waiting a year to get married. well we were staying in Schenectady and took one of our maynt trips to nyc and i saw him leave the ring in his duffel bag so i didnt expect it to happen this night. well we went shopping and goofed around all day and jordan kepy talking about going to the top of the empire state building. that night there was absolutely 0 visibility at the top of the building so everyone told us its the worse night to go up. but jordan just wanted to go to the top this night for reasons ... [+] i didnt know. well there was absolutely no line, thank god, cause this building looked equiped for hours and hours or waiting. there were very few people on top of the building. we were just looking over the edge (into fog only) and he started whispering to me how much he loved me and how he knows im the one he wants to spend his life with and i could sense how nervous he was. and then he dropped down on one knee and pulled out my gorgeous ring and asked will you marry me? and the few families up there applaused us and gave us our first congratulations. on the way down everyone who worked there already knew so i heard it a million times on the way out! and after some family talked us into it we are now being married on 09/23/2011 instead of waiting a whole year:)

My husband and I are what we call Disney Geeks, we totally love anything and everything Disney/Pixar. We had been dating for 2 years when one night on one of our many Disneyland trips (annual pass holders) he decided to take a photo in front of the castle. Our first photo was normal and then...next thing you know he is on one knee asking me to marry him! I said...Is this real (talking about the ring! lol) The cast member capture my reaction! I finally took a breather and said YES! It was by far one of my happiest moments on the happiest place on earth!

My boyfriend lived over 300 miles away while I attended college out of state. Late in the fall semester I was attending a dinner party with friends, when my friend Ted told me to go down the hall to get ice cream from another friend’s room. I walked down the hallway until I heard a voice behind me. He said my name. I turned around in shock. I didn’t even go over to him but said over and over again, “Oh my goodness, I’m going to pass out.” As soon as I got over the shock I excitedly introduced him to all of my friends. Only minutes later as we were walking around campus, he started to walk really slowly. He stopped under a street lamp and proposed to me.

My boyfriend and I were suppose to be broken up because of religious difference. He is my best friend's older cousin and I grew up admiring him in a little girl sort of way. After graduating from college, I started teaching in his home town where we would meet from time to time. When my motorcycle broke down, I asked him, as a cousin-friend to give me a lift in his pickup, and that started a long 8 month friendship that was defined by hanging out and basically denying our feelings. The church I grew up in did not allow for members to couple up with/ marry none-members, so I never thought could or would fall in love with him. When our love for each grew too strong to deny, my boyfriend had tried to fit in the church. After a year he realized that that is not the church he wants to spend his ... [+] life with and the leaders asked me to stop seeing him. Honestly I wanted to submit, but it was impossible. We began seeing each other on the sly. I knew I loved him, but I had so many connections, so many ties in my church, and I was not ready to say good-bye to it. He was very understanding and although he did not agree he respected my need. After of few months of our secret relationship, of course, we got caught. The leadership had called for a meeting. The night before the fateful meeting, my boyfriend took me on a walk. We prayed together and discussed our options. In the moonlight I cried on his shoulder because I realized that I love him and that eventually I am going to lose the people I love... it was just a matter of time. I told him that I was going to asked to be released from the church, and that it was going to be hard. I didn't want to be alone, and I will only do it if he marries me someday. Turns out he had bought a ring three months earlier, but didn't want to pressure me or make me feel even more confused about the church/love relationship. He got on his knees right there on the street in the moon light and asked me to marry him. He went into his pocket to get the ring he had been carrying around but it was not there! Just that day he put in the glove compartment of his truck but he did not say anything. I was bewildered and I thought he was joking. Slightly hurt and confused (double)I walked with him back to my house where his truck was parked. Before telling me good-night he scrounged around in his truck for a moment. Turning to me, he asked if it was too late to go on another walk. I was mad, and tired, drained from all the crying and nervous about the next day, but a little voice in my head said to go ahead. My beloved and I walked out of the neighborhood and up hill. With nothing but the stars to light our way we walked mostly in silence. When we got to the top, he put a hibiscus in my hair and said that he loves me and he needs to do this right. He got on his knees and said that he was too stubborn to let me go, and that he does know what the next few months will bring, but will I please marry him? This time he put his hand in his pocket and took out a simple but pretty diamond ring. We hugged and laughed and cried until we fell asleep in the grass on the hill.
We woke up a few hours later and walked home. My mother was pacing the livingroom floor but when I showed her the ring, she hugged me with joy. Right there she gave me her blessing and I realized that is was patriarchal blessings are really about.
We are getting married early next year. It has not been easy, but I know no matter who comes against, my beloved with always be there for me.

Demetrice and Alvin Smith won a contest sponsored by TLC to renew their wedding vows at the premeire of the movie Jumping the Broom. Turns out, they were members of my previous church (membership: 35,000+). They shared a bit of their story: They had been friends for years, just hanging out and going through life. After one particular night of hanging out, Demetrice realized to herself that she loved Alvin and had to tell him right away. She set out in the pouring rain to see Alvin when she sees a figure coming toward her. She realizes it is Alvin ( who about the same time she did had the same realization that he loved her and was on his way to tell her!) They met in the rain under a street light, whhere they confessed their love for each other and he proposed!
